The technology just isn't there yet. I’d love to hide pet names for tamed pets but keep NPC names on. I like to see all interactable NPCs because I like to purchase every collectable and read every bit of dialogue/lore. If players could hide pet names, then my gazelles name of 'C C The Gotdamn Bar' would become rather useless.

Yes ferocious pets give not offensive stats when you are merged with them. The moa is the highest dps when you used it's f2 ability while inside twice as vicious, sic em and one wolf pack due to its multi hits. That being said I prefer the added cc from rock gazelle.
